Characteristics
The caps of the 'B+' variety can reach impressive sizes, often expanding to a diameter of 5 to 15 cm. Initially conical, they become flatter and broader over time. Their colour can vary from golden-brown to light brown, often with a lighter, almost white margin. The gills under the cap are initially light but darken over time, turning shades from grey-brown to almost black, typical of mature Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms.
The stem of the 'B+' mushrooms is equally distinctive, usually thick and robust, reaching a height of 7 to 15 cm. The colour of the stem can be white or creamy, and blue hues often appear at points of pressure – a reaction known as bruising, which results from damage to the mushroom tissue and the reaction of psilocybin with oxygen.
